Quadcopter

In conversation with WU9P on 20m, I realized I hadn’t posted any updates on the tower project. I’ve take a quick quadcopter video from the house up and over the tower. More details later.

40M4LLDD Delivered

Adam dropped the big 40m beam off this morning.  I had been playing in the Minnesota QSO Party and chasing some NPOTA activators, so I’d missed his call.  Holy crap, this boom is huge. Getting seriously excited!  Still waiting on a couple more RF and control parts.  Final order for structural parts will go out tonight.

Wrong Controller

Prior to the shack-relocation and remodel, I was using a 2-element SteppIR at ~30 feet and a ZS6BKW at ~55 feet.  With the move inside, I’ve compromised and I’m only using the ZS6BKW (relocated – now broadside E/W @ ~70 feet with the help of W7ECK).  This is about as simple as it gets.  One rig, one tuner, one… Read More »

VP8SGI / Tower Update

I landed two of this month’s three big DXPeditions (on this side of the planet, anyway).  K5P and VP8SGI are now both in the log.  I just worked VP8SGI (South Georgia Islands) on 17m.  Greyline does magic for the compromise antenna (a ZS6BKW) that I’m rocking @ 500W.  I literally cannot wait for The Tower Project to continue progressing (details… Read More »

As I’m sure is true for most hams, since I was first licensed, I’ve dreamed of huge gain at huge elevation (above ground).
